Rocks on Swordmaster’s Youngest Son
Heeeello. Got a treat for you, this time. BOIS! I PRESENT TO YOU, DRAGON WRESTLING!
Okay fine, it's not just that. For starters, the art is stunning. Like, properly phenomenal. From characters to action, it is so polished it's unreal. All of the cast is attractive, there is not even one exception. It's an artstyle you've seen around, for sure, but the production value behind it is exceptional. It's also original in the way it directs the scenes. (i.e. the reflection of MC's face on a champagne glass)
And honestly, cool as fu** too. The characterization itself is not the most nuanced thing in the world, sure, but the sheer badassery of some of these characters makes up for it. MC is strong, monotone, with low emotional depth, but he is so effortlessly badass at times you cannot help but stare in awe. The side cast too, is incredibly enjoyable. Murakhan in particular: again, he won't win any prizes for psychological complexity, but he is a dragon cat boy with crazy exes, the personality of an himbo and a the tact of an elephant who downed an entire bottle of laxatives. He is adorable. I don't care about their limits as characters, they are just too da** entertaining for many different good reasons.
The action itself is paced in an impeccable way. There is not a moment of stalling. And the character grow is, for now, pretty sustained. The powers themselves are standard sword-magic stuff, nothing too striking or memorable, but it's pretty defined in both limits and capabilities. It's the pinnacle of a murim combat system, but with a western fantasy flavour.
All in all, a reaaaaally solid five starts. Pure adrenaline and appealing action fun, with some truly goosebumps moments all along it. Recommended, this things knows what it wants to do, how to do it, and when. No frills attached.
